Purpose

The spirit of dance is the energy that connects to the music and allows the dancer to communicate with it. The Atlanta Labor Day Dance Workshop is a culmination of dance classes suited for dancers wanting to enhance their creativity and artistic ability. It is a dance workshop hosted by Atlanta based dancers wanting to share with all who enjoy dancing. No dance experience needed!!!

Class Description

West African Dance (Senegalese)

With live drumming, you’ll learn the fundamentals of West African dance and ground you in an understanding of the accompanying drum rhythms. No previous dance experience needed.
Instructor: Assane Kouyate

Soca Dance

Soca dance is a style of Caribbean dance that accompanies Soca music basic moves traditionally done to Soca music (wining and other body isolations), and will end with a short sequence of choreography. Previous dance experience not required. Bring a flag.
Instructor: Imani Ray

House Dance

House music is a universal music that uses elements from every type of music, which allows dancers to tap into the universe’s energy. No previous dance experience needed.
Instructor: Ramadhan Nanji

Afro Caribbean Dance (BUMBUM)

Unique style of dance, rich with diversity heavily influenced by salsa, African, samba, dancehall, and other world dances. No previous dance experience needed.

Assane Kouyate – Born and raised in Senegal, West Africa of a family line originating in Mali and Guinea. He comes from a long line of griots – the poets, history tellers and keepers of West African song and dance traditions.

Amity Word – Amity Word is an energetic choreographer, performer, actress and visual artist with over 25 years dance experience. Amity is a certified group fitness instructor, Total Body Flexibility Specialist, and the creator of “BUMBUM Caribbean Dance Fitness”.

Ramadhan Nanji – Ramadhan Nanji has been a creative entity for more than twenty years. His submersion into house music and becoming an artistic dancer was “an inevitable transition” which has led him on a journey to inspire others to free their spirit through spiritual dancing.
