Black Man Simulator Kickstarter Promo from Deigratia A. Daniels on Vimeo.

The idea for this project came from a conversation with a few friends after the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. We talked about some of the systemic issues that contributed to these tragedies and the role that empathy could have played in preventing them. The Black Man Simulator is designed to promote a deeper level of empathy and dialogue.

Using virtual and augmented reality techniques, similar to what is used to create video games, the Black Man Simulator will walk people through experiences black men commonly face. Simulators are extremely powerful experiential learning tools that can quickly put the participant in the mind of a different character. The technology and environment responds to the participant; they are not watching black men face challenging situations, they are temporarily placed in these same situations themselves.

The Black Man Simulator as really picked up momentum since it’s conception. With an IDEA CAPITAL grant award and successful Kickstarter campaigns under our belt, we’re excited to unveil the final project to the masses. We would like to thank EVERYONE that has contributed their time, talents, and feedback to make this project a reality.

Antonio Andre Riley

Antonio was thrilled to be a part of the Black Man Simulator experience. It provided an amazing opportunity to tell his story of life as an African American male.
